The cover for the Winter 2020 Campfire comic Quarterly. I was asked to depict winter. My turkeys tend to visit more often in the colder months of the year. They huddle together in the trees and bushes. Which is why when I was asked to do a winter illustration, I thought of turkeys hunkered down in the low brush. Winter is often seen as desolate and colorless. But I tried to share winter the way I think of it. Still alive. Waiting. Resting. Persisting. Transforming. Enduring. Ending and beginning. Winter is harsh. But what you’ll find amongst the snow is resilient.

I loved painting this piece and then looking up to see wild turkeys in the yard.
